Brown Rams Horn Snail

$2.50

The brown ramshorn snail (Planorbella duryi), often referred to simply as the ramshorn snail, is a small freshwater gastropod native to North and Central America. Recognized by its coiled, flat shell resembling the spiral of a ram’s horn, this snail typically exhibits a rich brown color but can vary depending on environmental conditions. Ramshorn snails are widely distributed across aquatic habitats such as ponds, rivers, and lakes, where they play a key role in maintaining ecosystem balance.

These snails are detritivores, feeding on algae, decaying plant material, and other organic debris, making them valuable in home aquariums as natural cleaners. Despite their usefulness, ramshorn snails can reproduce prolifically, potentially becoming pests if not managed. Known for their resilience, they are capable of surviving in a range of water conditions, although they thrive best in clean, oxygen-rich environments.

Completely safe with all fish, shrimp, and plants, and are entirely peaceful. Their shells come in a range of colors, from soft pastel blue to a striking silver. If you have shrimp, you'll find it especially entertaining— they love hitching rides on the snails!
